Gordon Head Start Parent Group Project

Hello! We are the Northwest Community Action Partnership Gordon Area Head Start Parent Group, and we have some exciting news that we would like to share, but first let us explain what we do:

Every year the group decides on a project that we can do that will benefit the community, which includes all of Sheridan County. A few of the projects that we have done include, raising money to help the Gordon Movie Theatre, we have made cookies in a jar to donate to Gordon County Side Care’s Willow Tree Booth, we have had a non-food drive, and last year we planted flower boxes with the children in our program to give to the grandma’s and grandpa’s at Country Side Care.

This year we have undertaken an even bigger project and we will need the help of the greater Sheridan County Community.  This year we will be sending care packages to deployed men and women in the armed services along with any local veteran that is in need. Starting November 20, 2017 we will be setting up donation boxes in local businesses such as:

Pump and Pantry, Gordon Super Foods, Gordon Head Start Center, Husker Auto Parts, the Coffee Nook, and Security First in both Rushville and Hay Springs. The boxes will be in place through January 15, 2018.  Some of the items that we are needing include:

Powdered drink mixes
Ramen style noodles
Energy bars
Non-perishable beef jerky
Small hand containers of chips, pretzels and nuts
Cheese and crackers
Toothbrushes/toothpaste/dental floss
Cotton swabs
Disposable razors
Shampoo
Individually wrapped tissue
Lip balm
Medicated foot powder
Disposable hand warmers

The Parent Group will have a booth at Gordon Memorial Hospital Hobbies in the Lobby on November 30 and well as a Soup and Sweets Feed before and during the Parade of Lights on December 9 to raise funds to help defray shipping costs.
